Lubbock Police were called to a business in the 2900 block of Parkway Drive at 3:22 a.m. on July 5th for a report of a fight in progress involving up to 100 people. Due to the information surrounding the call, multiple LPD officers responded.

At 3:34 a.m., while officers were on scene, the suspect, 17-year-old Terrence Hastings Jr., began shooting at other individuals outside the business. An LPD officer saw the suspect as he was shooting and immediately began chasing him as the suspect ran away. While running after him, the officer gave verbal commands for the suspect to show his hands. Instead, the suspect again leveled his weapon in the direction of individuals on scene, prompting the officer to fire his department-issued weapon. Even after being shot, the suspect continued to crawl toward and reach for his weapon, prompting the officer to again fire his weapon at the suspect.

Hastings was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Five individuals were transported to local hospitals. Four were taken to University Medical Center via ambulance; three with serious injuries and one with moderate injuries. One person was taken to Covenant Medical with moderate injuries.

Due to the expansive nature of the scene, and an already call-heavy night, LPD resources were stretched thin and nearly every on-duty officer in city limits responded to the scene, along with deputies from The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety. The chaotic nature of events spurred an early activation of the department’s day shift personnel in order to ensure a continued response for Lubbock citizens.
