Andrew Horsman, Charged With Murder After Fatal Stabbing Of Mother's Longtime Boyfriend

Andrew Horsman, 41, has been charged with murder in connection to the fatal stabbing of his mother’s longtime boyfriend, 66-year-old Paul Pomerleau, at a home on Fairview Street in Middleborough, Massachusetts. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

Police initially responded to a dropped 911 call, followed by a second call from Pomerleau’s daughter. When officers arrived, they found Pomerleau lying in the mudroom, surrounded by blood, a knife, and a container of lighter fluid. He was taken to Morton Hospital in Taunton, where he was pronounced dead. Prosecutors said Pomerleau had multiple stab wounds — including about 10 to his torso, five in his back, and two in his arm.

Three witnesses — Horsman’s mother and Pomerleau’s two adult children — told investigators that the stabbing stemmed from a family argument over cooking steaks. According to Pomerleau’s son, Horsman suddenly charged across the room and stabbed his father 12 to 20 times while he was seated on the couch. After briefly fleeing, Horsman returned and poured lighter fluid on Pomerleau before being restrained by the son and fleeing again.

Police found Horsman roughly 1,000 feet from the home and took him into custody. Pomerleau’s daughter said she called 911 after witnessing the stabbing and noted prior verbal disputes between Horsman and Pomerleau, largely due to Horsman being unemployed and unwelcome in the home. She also said Pomerleau had expressed fears Horsman might harm him or others.

Horsman has a prior domestic assault charge. He pleaded not guilty in court Monday and was ordered held without bail. He is due back in court on July 28. Middleborough’s police chief expressed condolences to the family and thanked the community for their cooperation during the incident.
