Don't Actually "Roll" On The Foam Roll
Foam roll doesn't help... if you're not doing it correctly. It's all about relaxing the muscle to let it sink deeper into the foam roll (or whatever implement you're using). As the muscle relaxes the tension of the muscle decreases and you can apply a deeper pressure point and force to that area you're trying to massage. This activates golgi tendon organs more which tell the muscle to relax more and help the fibers and fascicles slide past each other better like they're supposed to. Restoring function of the muscle restores how well the joint functions since the muscles manipulate the bones of the joints.
