Resident Evil 8: Village | Hiding from a mutant baby, creepy dolls, and having fun with explosives
Gameplay Part 3
Experience survival horror like never before in the 8th major installment in the Resident Evil franchise - Resident Evil Village. With detailed graphics, intense first-person action and masterful storytelling, the terror has never felt more realistic.
Set a few years after the horrifying events in the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. Just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again.
In this playthrough we cover:
House Beneviento (Part 2):
As Ethan leaves the mannequin workshop to retrieve the breaker box fuse, the horror escalates. The house is now cloaked in darkness and eerily silent—until a grotesque, wailing giant baby-like creature appears, crawling and shrieking through the halls. Unarmed and defenseless, Ethan is forced to flee and hide in closets or beneath beds to avoid being devoured. After a tense game of cat and mouse, he manages to retrieve the fuse and restore power to the elevator, narrowly escaping the abomination.
Back in the upper levels, he faces Angie, the possessed doll companion of Donna Beneviento. In a twisted hide-and-seek sequence, Ethan must locate and stab Angie three times as she darts through rooms filled with porcelain dolls. After her defeat, Donna’s illusion collapses, revealing her dead body. Ethan claims the Four-Winged Unborn Key and the second piece of Rose’s body, leaving the mansion behind with another section of the village map unlocked.
The Village (Third Visit):
Returning to the village, Ethan finds new pathways have opened thanks to the new key. The environment is more hostile—Lycans now roam freely, and more areas are blocked by debris or locked gates. He explores new houses and crypts, collecting treasures and solving mechanical puzzles. This visit also includes encounters with new enemy types and clues leading toward the Reservoir, the domain of the next lord, Moreau.
The Reservoir:
Ethan descends into the dilapidated, water-logged territory ruled by the grotesque and tragic Salvatore Moreau. Inside an abandoned fishing facility, he finds the crank tool needed to raise submerged bridges. Moreau mutates into a massive, fish-like creature that floods parts of the village with corrosive slime and acidic vomit. Ethan must navigate collapsing rooftops, time-based platforming puzzles, and dangerous flooded walkways to reach safety and stop Moreau.
After a tense boss battle in a drained reservoir pit, Ethan defeats Moreau by exploiting his pattern of attacks and the explosive barrels littered around the area. Moreau dies lamenting his failed attempts to earn Mother Miranda’s approval. Ethan retrieves the Six-Winged Unborn Key and Moreau’s piece of Rose, then finds a hidden lab detailing the Four Lords’ origins and Miranda’s experiments.
The Village (Fourth Visit):
With three lords defeated, the village is now even more unstable—infested with more Lycans, armored enemies, and shifting terrain. Ethan accesses previously unreachable areas using the crank, including secret caves and stronghold entrances. He also discovers more lore through notes and symbols, revealing deeper connections between the village’s rituals, Mother Miranda, and the mysterious Cadou parasite. Eventually, his journey points him toward the final major stronghold: Heisenberg’s domain.
The Stronghold:
Ethan infiltrates the heavily fortified Lycans' den, a crumbling stone fortress packed with enemies. He fights through wave after wave of Lycans in tight corridors and spiraling towers. The intensity builds until Ethan reaches the Lycan King, a massive brute wielding a warhammer. After a challenging fight, Ethan defeats the creature and escapes with a flask containing Rose’s final body part. This pivotal moment sets the stage for his final confrontation with Heisenberg.
Heisenberg’s Factory (Intro):
With all four flasks in hand, Ethan returns to the Ceremony Site, where Heisenberg awaits. Heisenberg offers Ethan a deal: join forces to take down Mother Miranda. However, Heisenberg’s plan involves using Rose as a weapon, something Ethan refuses. Heisenberg responds by dropping Ethan into the depths of his mechanized factory, where a massive, roaring scrap metal monster gives chase. Ethan must flee through narrow, twisting machinery corridors with death at his heels, beginning one of the most industrial and combat-heavy chapters of the game.
