July 'pressure'

In the video you can see the rod bounce when the bass struck the lure. My reaction to set the hook was too late. The 3 second rule doesn't apply to setting the hook.

Up to this time I've been fishing at a lake that is 125 acres and I'm now fishing a large 350 acre lake, B.T. Brown Reservoir, this week. The difference in fishing these 2 lakes is that bank fishing isn't allowed at BT Brown 'Brown', only from boats, such as kayaks.

Today I paddled hard for about 20 minutes to get where I wanted to fish then I have to paddle while casing and reeling due to the wind blowing the boat around out of position and some areas is 5-10 MPH and that's a lot for a little kayak. The wind pushes the kayak around and I end up in the bank or trees if I'm not careful.

So my excuse is that I was too tired after 3 hours of fishing to respond quickly... Next time, right?

I have a straight post that can be used as an anchor but is only good for up to 7' deep. Usually I'm deeper than that and I have to paddle a lot to position the kayak. Sometimes the ground is rocky and I can't 'anchor' into it very well as the wind pushed me out and then the kayak drifts. Sometimes the fish are where the wind is because they wait for fry to be blown into the bank where they are waiting.

July is hot and the bass are slow to bite due to pressure from fishing. My hope is that the bass are more active in the cooler water where runoff enters the reservoir. This photo is a map of the lake is marked where the water enters the lake with blue circles. It rained yesterday so maybe those will have active bass today.
