THE EARLY CHURCH Part 10: The Conversion of Saul

10

Saul was ambushed by Jesus on the outskirts of Damascus and questioned about his motives. The persecutor was stunned to learn that he was actually a servant of Satan!

Saul prayed and fasted and wrestled over the revelation that Jesus is the Messiah for three agonizing days. As a Pharisee, he had never witnessed the supernatural and it was certainly unusual to be given a vision of Ananias restoring his sight.

The conversion was so dramatic that Saul soon started preaching Christ crucified. This brought the wrath of the renegade Jews in Damascus and Christians snuck him out of the city. He visited Jerusalem to meet with the apostles and they were reticent, thinking it was some kind of trick.

It was not until Barnabas personally vouched for Saul that the church leadership finally accepted him as a brother in Christ. Then his former colleagues threatened his life and Saul was shipped home to Tarsus.
