By July 1999, the Kargil War had entered its deadliest phase. While Indian forces had already reclaimed Tololing, two strategic peaks, Tiger Hill and Point 4875 still remained in enemy control. Capturing them was crucial to break Pakistan’s back and win the war. But climbing 17,000 feet in sub-zero temperatures under enemy fire was nearly impossible.
This is the story of unmatched courage of a 19-year-old soldier who climbed a vertical cliff and a young captain who became a legend. What happened on those icy peaks that turned the tide of the Kargil War forever?
