* Very limited release (arthouse and midnight screenings) and outright bans in Conservative markets
* Conter-culture drive-in theaters and movie houses embraced it
* Missed the mainstream cinemas entirely
* Anti-authoritarian themes and strange visuals were deemed "subversive"
* People feared it would be used as a "trip movie" (drop acid/LSD and watch it)
