[The Three Little Pigs - EP25] - NDIS from some involved what needs addressing
[The Three Little Pigs - EP25] - NDIS from some involved what needs addressing - after the banter in this episode we discuss the issues within the NDIS scheme and the appointment of a minister who hasn't seen a great deal of success during his time in parliament. We further discussed the issues for carers and dealing with the short comings of the scheme and what perhaps needs to change and be addressed, thanks to Leah and Lisa for joining us on this episode.
Below are some links of interest should you wish to follow up further.
The NDIA is failing some of Australia’s most vulnerable people. From 1 July 2025, the NDIS plans to cut or freeze funding for critical services like allied health, travel, and support coordination despite rising costs. This will reduce access, limit choice, and impact quality of care for people with disability. Peak bodies including the Australian Psychological Society, Dietitians Australia, Australian Physiotherapy Association, and others are calling for urgent action.

In 2025, the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) in Australia will see several changes, including adjustments to pricing, funding periods, and how certain supports are accessed. These changes aim to improve the scheme's sustainability, ensure fairer pricing, and enhance participant experience. Here's a breakdown of the key changes:
Fairer Pricing: The NDIA is implementing changes to NDIS pricing from July 1, 2025, to align with pricing used in other support systems like Medicare and Private Health Insurance.
Wage Increase: Disability Support Workers funded under the Disability Support Worker Cost Model will receive a 3.95% pay rise.
Disability-Related Health Supports: From June 30, 2025, Disability-Related Health Supports (DRHS) will be moved from Core funding to Capacity Building funding. This means therapies like dietetics, physiotherapy, psychology, and speech pathology will need to be claimed under Capacity Building.
Funding Periods: From May 19, 2025, new and reassessed NDIS plans will include funding periods, meaning funds will be released in smaller portions throughout the plan duration rather than all at once.
Changes to Plan Management: New rules commencing March 4, 2025, clarify when the NDIA must accept a participant's plan management request and what factors they need to consider.
Early Childhood Supports: Families can access early childhood supports for longer, including assistance from a key worker and services focused on building everyday skills.
Changes to Support Coordination: There are potential changes to the roles of Support Coordinators and LACs, with a possible shift towards "navigators" to help participants navigate the system.
Plan Reviews: Be prepared for your next plan review, as changes to funding and support categories may require adjustments.
Understanding Funding: Familiarize yourself with the new funding periods and how your funds will be released.
Provider Responsibilities: Understand the updated pricing arrangements and ensure providers are compliant with the new rules.
Some advocacy groups have expressed concerns that the changes, particularly those related to funding periods and potential limitations on flexibility, could negatively impact participants with complex needs.
The NDIS is constantly evolving, and providers and participants alike should stay informed about upcoming changes.
Political discourse surrounding the NDIS is ongoing, and further reforms may be introduced in the future
