11. Cancer History

“General mid 20 something. Malaise and agitated probably in a Kurt Bobain kinda mood. Feeling low, felling anything, it was a long time ago. Before the world really kicked your ass. It’s what I thought was owed. What I thought was the end, I was a denied kid.”

Cancer is the 11th and final song from Spells and Spirits. It is also one of the only songs where the lyrics are not mine. I was hanging out with a friend of mine, Hank.
We were exchanging songs and poems. Hank being the poet and I the musion. He pulled out an old poem of his and asked me to play something somber and reflective to accompany him.
We nailed it in one. First time everything was perfect. The song Cancer was created. Hank gave me permission to keep and use his poem.
Musically the song is made up of four verse/choruses as one. It fitted Hanks' poem perfectly and accentuated his writings.
Lyrically Hank's poem is a tragedy made into beauty. A soul who is about to throw it all away then decides to save themselves. The above paragraph is Hank's own words about the song.
