What Did Jesus Say About Marriage (sermon only)

Jesus addresses the topic of marriage and divorce. As Jesus travels to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, the Pharisees approach him with a question meant to test him: whether it is lawful for a man to divorce his wife. Jesus responds by referring to Moses’ allowance for divorce due to the hardness of people's hearts, but he emphasizes God's original design for marriage. He explains that from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female, and intended for a man to leave his parents, unite with his wife, and become one flesh with her. Therefore, Jesus asserts that what God has joined together, no one should separate. In a private discussion with his disciples, Jesus further clarifies that divorcing and marrying another is akin to committing adultery. This passage highlights the sanctity and permanence of marriage as intended by divine design.
