Greenville County, SC - The Greenville County Sheriff's Office released new details about a deputy involved shooting last May.

In a video, a Sheriff's Office representative says law enforcement received an anonymous tip that a man wanted for murder, kidnapping, and escaping out of Spartanburg County was riding his bike down Highway 14 near Cannon Road in Greer. This was May 29, at 12:11 p.m.

Deputies arrived around 12:20 p.m. and began searching the woods with a canine for 51-year-old Johnny Andrew Collins.

They found him barricaded in some brush in a wooded area.

Deputies attempted to get Collins to come out with his hands empty and up. In the video, Collins insists on someone giving him a cigarette before he comes out.

Deputies call for a medic and cigarettes over the radio.

That's when deputies see Collins was holding a hatchet.

"Put the hatchet down please," said a deputy.

"Please give me a cigarette," Collins said.

"If you put the hatchet down and come out, I give you my word," the deputy said.

"No you won't, no no no no no no," Collins repeated.

"I give you my word," the deputy said.

"[Expletive] your word, man," Collins said.

Deputies yelled, telling Collins to put his hands up and to stop walking towards them.

Body camera video shows Collins, after asking deputies to shoot him earlier in the standoff, walking toward deputies and raising his hatchet.

Deputies fire multiple shots. Collins falls and drops the hatchet.

According to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, Collins died at the scene.
