At around 11:35 AM on July 13, a Kentucky state trooper flagged a car by its license plate and asked the driver to pull over. Without warning, the man inside started firing—critically injuring the trooper before speeding away.
He then commandeered another vehicle—fortunately no bystanders were hurt—and raced east toward Lexington. Just 16 miles later, he arrived at Richmond Road Baptist Church, where congregants were mid service. Inside, he opened fire, tragically causing the deaths of two women—34 year old Christina Combs and 72 year old Beverly Gumm—and seriously injuring two men.
