Air India Crash: Report Reveals Pilots In Panic; What Is A Fuel Control Switch? | Spotlight | N18G

The mystery around one of India's worst aviation disasters, the Air India 171 crash that left 260 people dead in Ahmedabad, has deepened. A preliminary report by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, or the AAIB, details chaos and confusion in the cockpit just before the crash. The report states that both fuel control switches of the aircraft were turned off just seconds after takeoff. This cut off the fuel to the engines, triggering a total power loss. The report also details one pilot asking the other why he cut off, and the other responded by saying he did not. The report not only leaves several questions unanswered but also raises new questions. While some experts point to wilful active sabotage, others suggest an electrical or software glitch. The Indian Commercial Pilots' Association has called accusations against the pilots a gross violation and a disservice to the profession.
