Detroit: Become Human | Killing off Connor in the first scene and Kara uses the gun...twice
Gameplay Part 1
Detroit: Become Human puts the destiny of both mankind and androids in your hands, taking you to a near future where machines have become more intelligent than humans. Shape an ambitious branching narrative, where your decisions not only determine the fate of the three main characters: Kara, Connor, Markus, but that of the entire city of Detroit. Every decision you make, no matter how minute, affects the outcome of the story. No playthrough will be exactly the same.
In this playthrough we cover:
The Hostage:
In downtown Detroit, android negotiator Connor is dispatched to a high-rise apartment to handle a hostage situation involving deviant android Daniel, who has taken a little girl named Emma. The rooftop standoff is tense, with outcomes varying based on player choices. This chapter sets the tone for Connor's investigative gameplay and introduces his role within the Deviancy Investigation Unit.
Opening:
This brief cinematic sequence shows various androids across the city of Detroit, Michigan. It introduces the game's futuristic setting—where androids have become integrated into everyday life, but are also viewed with hostility and mistrust by parts of the human population. You get a first person perspective of Kara in an android shop who is picked up my Todd.
Shades of Color:
Markus, a caretaker android, runs errands for his elderly owner Carl Manfred, a respected painter living in an upscale home. The chapter explores racial and class divisions, as Markus experiences discrimination while navigating the city. His bond with Carl becomes central to his development.
A New Home:
Kara, a housekeeping android, is brought back to the home of her abusive owner Todd Williams and his neglected daughter Alice. The chapter highlights Kara’s perspective as she quietly observes the toxic environment and begins forming a protective connection with Alice.
The Painter:
Carl encourages Markus to paint freely, challenging him to think beyond his programming. Their peaceful morning is interrupted by Carl's son Leo, a struggling addict who causes a violent confrontation. Depending on choices, Markus can either resist or fight back—setting the stage for a dramatic shift in his story.
Partners:
Connor is paired with grizzled Detroit PD lieutenant Hank Anderson to investigate the first deviant murder. They visit a crime scene where an android killed its owner. Depending on investigative thoroughness and player choices, Connor can determine the android’s hiding place. The dynamic between Hank and Connor begins to take shape here.
Stormy Night:
Todd’s aggression escalates, threatening Alice during a violent outburst. Kara is faced with a defining choice—whether to remain obedient or break her programming to protect Alice. If she chooses to deviate, she grabs a weapon and flees the house with Alice into the storm, forging their bond as fugitives.
Broken:
After a heated argument with Leo, Markus tries to protect Carl during a confrontation that ends in tragedy. The police arrive and, misreading the situation, shoot Markus, believing the android attacked a human.
The Interrogation:
Connor interrogates the deviant android suspect arrested during "Partners." The android is clearly traumatized, and Connor can use either empathy or pressure to extract a confession. The scene tests Connor's approach to his mission and allows players to determine whether he’s becoming more human or remaining machine-like.
Fugitives:
Kara and Alice evade police by navigating through Detroit’s urban streets and alleys. They can seek shelter in an abandoned house, a car, or a motel—each with consequences. The chapter focuses on survival and deepens Kara’s maternal role, while exploring society’s fear of androids.
From the Dead:
Discarded in a scrapyard, Markus reawakens and struggles to rebuild himself using parts from other broken androids. Emerging from the pit reborn, he declares his new identity and begins his path toward freedom.
