Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says any attempt to trigger the so-called snapback mechanism to reimpose UN sanctions amounts to a confrontational move that will draw an appropriate response from Tehran.

“In view of the recent developments, resorting to the snapback mechanism is baseless and lacks legal, political, and ethical basis more than ever,” Baghaei said at his weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday.

He added that the mechanism is merely an instrumentalization of a provision that was included in UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorses the 2015 nuclear agreement, and lacks any justification.
