COS MI - George Mason Did NOT Sign the Constitution

Founder Col. George Mason was instrumental in developing the Constitution. He is credited with the section of Article V that allowed for the people to recommend laws in addition to Congress. But, he did not add his signature to the Constitution. Why is that?
