Leavitt On Epstein Files: “No Special Prosecutor, No Hoax—Just Democrat Deflection”

(Dist. of Criminals), July 17, 2025 — White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took center stage today to address swirling media speculation and political backlash over the firing of Maureen Comey, daughter of former FBI Director James Comey. Comey, a lead prosecutor in the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office, was involved in high-profile cases including those of Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Leavitt confirmed that President Trump will not appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Epstein saga, calling the suggestion media-driven and misaligned with current facts.

“The president would not recommend a special prosecutor in the Epstein case. That’s how he feels,” Leavitt stated firmly.

Senior White House correspondent Jackie Heinrich reported that, despite mounting pressure from Trump supporters and Republican leaders, the administration maintains that the DOJ and FBI already completed a comprehensive review. The president now refers to the Epstein narrative as a “hoax,” particularly in response to Democrats suddenly demanding transparency.

“Democrats had control of this building for four years,” Leavitt shot back, “and they didn’t do a dang thing when it came to transparency in regards to Jeffrey Epstein and his heinous crimes.”

Leavitt also addressed bipartisan calls—including from Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson—to unseal any remaining files.

“The president is in agreement with those Republican leaders,” she said. “If any new credible evidence emerges, he believes it should be made available to the American people.”

However, she made clear that decisions about grand jury materials fall under the authority of judges—not the Executive Branch.

“That’s out of the president’s control,” Leavitt concluded. “The president did what he promised: he ordered a full review. It’s time to stop chasing ghosts.”
