Kelsey Fitzsimmons release statement in blue on blue accident

Officer Kelsey Fitzsimmons has released a powerful and emotional statement from her hospital bed after being shot by a fellow officer during what was initially described as an armed confrontation.

In her account, she was experiencing a severe mental health crisis brought on by postpartum depression — and never posed a threat to anyone but herself. She says she never pointed her firearm at anyone, and only survived because her own weapon didn’t fire… but someone else's did.

She now faces felony charges, has lost custody of her baby, and is calling for urgent reform to a system she says failed her completely.

This is her voice, her experience, and it deserves to be heard. We’ll see what the legal process brings, but right now this raises serious questions about how law enforcement, the courts, and mental health crises are handled — especially for mothers.
