Mary Ceruti lived a life marked by hardship and loneliness, beginning with a poor childhood in Houston and the death of both parents by the time she was 21. After two failed marriages, she embraced a solitary existence in her small home, refusing to sell it to developers and viewing it as her own "castle." Her only comfort and purpose came from rescuing dozens of stray cats, who became her surrogate family.
In 2015, Mary suddenly vanished. Concerned neighbors called the police, who entered her home to find a horrific scene: an overwhelming stench and the bodies of all her deceased cats. However, there was no sign of Mary herself. Her disappearance became a mystery.
Two years later, in 2017, a young couple rented the house. While exploring the attic, the husband noticed a loose floorboard. Looking down into the gap beneath it, he made a shocking discovery: the skeletal remains of Mary Ceruti.
The theory is that Mary had gone into the attic and accidentally stepped on a weak floorboard, falling through into a narrow void between two walls. Trapped, unable to climb out or call for help, she died tragically within her own "castle." Her beloved cats, locked inside without their caretaker, subsequently perished as well.
