Former Commissioner of police, Gary Griffith has sharply criticized the decision by Commissioner of Police (CoP) Allister Guevarro to request a state of emergency (SoE), calling it a sign of operational weakness and a misuse of national security protocols.
The SoE, which came into effect on July 18, was based on intelligence suggesting organised criminal gangs, both inside and outside the prison system, were planning attacks on politicians and public officials.
However, in a strongly worded WhatsApp video, Griffith condemned both the public disclosure of the recommendation and the rationale behind it.
My Response:
Wow I can't believe that we agree on an issue such as the use of an SOE to fight crime. These drastic types of measures should never be used to combat long term issues such as crime and Gang Culture. This should be a lesson to others out here in T&T. You may not agree with someone 99% of the time, but as human beings there are times when those whom we usually oppose, will hold the same perspective as ourselves. I must say well said Gary.
