The rejection of Prophet Salih (AS) by his people

Brothers, sisters, friends and elders Assalamu Alaikum, wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, we are presenting the 109th episode of the Islamic informative video based on healing and events from the Holy Quran, and in this video we will describe, The rejection of Prophet Salih (AS) by his people

The rejection of Prophet Salih by his people, the Thamud, and the miraculous story of the she-camel is a deeply symbolic and sobering account mentioned multiple times in the Qur’an. The people of Tham?d were a powerful and technologically advanced tribe who lived after the people of ‘?d in the rocky valley of Al-?ijr. They were skilled in architecture and carved magnificent homes out of solid mountains. However, their material success and pride led them away from monotheism. Allah sent them Prophet Salih (AS) to call them back to the worship of the One true God. But like many communities before them, they rejected their prophet and demanded proof of his claim. As a sign, Allah sent them a unique miracle – a she-camel that emerged from a rock, entirely by His command.

In Surah Al-A‘raf verse 73, Allah says:

"And to Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih (AS). He said, 'O my people! Worship Allah; you have no god other than Him. A clear proof has come to you from your Lord: this she-camel of Allah is a sign for you. So leave her to graze in Allah’s land, and do not harm her, or else a painful punishment will seize you.'"

This camel was not an ordinary creature. She was created miraculously and served as a living proof of Allah’s power. Prophet Salih (AS) warned his people not to harm her and allowed her to drink water on alternate days, while the people would take turns on the remaining days.

However, despite this clear sign, the majority of the Tham?d rejected Salih’s message. Their hearts were filled with arrogance and rebellion. Some saw the she-camel as a threat to their resources, while others were simply unwilling to submit to the truth. In Surah Ash-Shu‘ara verses 155-156, Salih said:
"He said, 'Here is a she-camel. She will have her turn of drinking, and you will have your turn on a specified day. And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day.'"

Their rejection reached its peak when a group of them plotted to kill the she-camel, which they ultimately did. According to the Qur'an, the worst of them was sent to carry out the evil deed.

In Surah Ash-Shams verses 11-14), Allah narrates:

"Tham?d denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, when the most wicked of them was sent forth. But the Messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, '[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent] her from drinking.' But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal upon all of them."

This heinous act marked their final rebellion against Allah. Prophet Salih, after their crime, declared that they had only three days before Allah's punishment would descend upon them.

In Surah H?d verse 65), it is mentioned:

"But they hamstrung her, so he said, 'Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days – that is a promise not to be denied.'"

True to the warning, after three days, a mighty blast overtook them.

In Surah Al-Qamar verse 31, Allah says:

"So We sent upon them one shriek – and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen."

This scream, combined with a powerful earthquake, destroyed the entire nation. The once-mighty people of Tham?d became a forgotten tale, their homes in ruins – a lesson for all of mankind.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself referred to the fate of the Thamud. In Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 3378, during the expedition to Tabuk, when the Muslims passed by the ruins of Thamud, the Prophet said:

"Do not enter upon these people who were punished, unless you are weeping. If you are not weeping, then do not enter upon them, lest what befell them befall you."

This story is not just a historical account but a divine lesson for all generations. The rejection of Prophet Salih (AS) and the miracle of the she-camel serve as a powerful reminder of the consequences of denying truth, arrogance against divine guidance, and disobedience to Allah. It emphasizes that no matter how powerful or advanced a nation may become, if it turns away from Allah and His messengers, it is ultimately doomed to destruction.

With this, we ask for your permission until tomorrow and pray to Allah Almighty to grant us the ability to act on the Quran and Hadith, Amen

Allah Hafiz
