A Ukrainian prisoner of war has alleged mistreatment and low morale within the ranks of Ukraine’s military, citing abuse from commanding officers and inadequate care for soldiers deemed unfit for combat. Sergei Korol, who was mobilized in 2023 despite having a bone implant, claims he endured physical beatings and verbal abuse from his platoon commander before surrendering to Russian forces near the village of Milove in November 2025. “I didn’t want to die for nothing,” he said, detailing the deteriorating conditions on the frontline.
