The Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta cost approximately $1.6 billion to build, featuring a striking retractable roof composed of eight steel “petals” that open and close in a pinwheel formation, requiring over 27,000 tons of structural steel.

Its outer shell is clad in ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene), a lightweight, durable plastic that allows natural light while minimizing heat gain.

The stadium includes over 4,000 miles of fiber-optic cable and advanced water recapture systems for LEED Platinum certification.

Annual maintenance runs into the tens of millions, including HVAC, roof operations, digital systems, and turf replacement for both NFL and MLS use.

Operational logistics are handled by AMB Sports & Entertainment, involving year-round event scheduling, vendor contracts, and constant technical upkeep of the stadium’s high-tech features like its 360° halo video board.
