Wait on the Lord, He is on the Throne

As we study Psalm 46 we see a God who will be exalted in the earth, a God who has promised to be our refuge and strength. A God that promises to protect and provide for us. He is the one who protects us and will defeat the enemies that surround Jerusalem, God will stop the wars and break the components used against His people.

This is a hymn created by the Psalmist for the church to sing giving praises to God not only for what He has done, but what he is doing in Jerusalem. The Psalm conveys just how thankful to God the Israelite's are for His protection that He provides to the current and future (eschatological) remnant of Israel through the coming of Christ. God promises to protect Israel from the days of Abraham to the last days in Revelation when Jesus casts the final judgment on this earth.

Psalm 46 is included in a group of Psalms (45, 47 and 48) joined together to sing praises to the Lord who is the protector of Israel and is God almighty, the One who is worthy of our praise and worship. When we read these four Psalms together we understand that God’s promises are true and that God will never leave us nor forsake us.

When we look more closely at Psalm 46 we discover that it has three main sections or themes with multiple points that can be extracted as well. Verses 1-3, God is our refuge and strength, God helps in troubled times; Verses 4-7, God is with us, God is our protector; Verses 8-11, Be still, and that we should wait on the Lord, God is the King.

When we read and meditate on verse 10 we are assured that nothing is impossible for God. We quickly realize that all of our trust and faith should rest in the Lord’s hands. There are so many circumstances in our lives that can cause us to lose our focus on God and center our attention on the surrounding circumstances and situations we are in. In verse 10 when God tells us to be still, are we still in the storm? Or do we heed His commands only in circumstances when our lives are going well? When God tells us to know that He is God in all things do we believe Him? Or do we give God glory only for the positive things in our life? In all cases and in every circumstance God should get and deserves all Glory. It should be given to Him without doubt or hesitation. God is on the Throne!

As we develop a strong personal relationship with God one of the first things that He teaches us is to put all of our trust and faith in Him. Our relationship with God will grow if we submit to His will, His commandments and believe that He is in control of all things. God knows who we are and He knows what we are thinking. If we hand over the keys to our life to God and let Him drive our lives to place only He knows beforehand, then both the destination and the journey will be amazing. Trust comes from a personal relationship with God. In order to receive that relationship we must first receive His son Jesus Christ. The bible teaches us (John 14:6) that Jesus is the only path to God and to the kingdom of heaven. So, for those who have been taught or believe that God does not require anything from us, scripture in the New Testament along with the new covenant God made with His people, it is quite clear that we must make the choice to receive Christ in order to receive the ultimate gift that God has for you and me, life eternal in heaven with the Triune God.

My prayer is that the lost will be found, the blind will see and the deaf will hear the name of Jesus see the face of Jesus and find Jesus so we may live for eternity in Heaven. In the Mighty Name of Jesus Amen! Amen!
