Fiddler's Bow

Just released a new tune: Fiddler’s Bow — a bluegrass instrumental that tells the story of how I designed and built a better bow for trad and roots fiddlers. I recorded the fiddle part using one of my own carbon fiber Fiddler’s Bows, built for balance and control at the tip.

[Verse 1]

Well I came back home with a fire in my head

From the way those fiddlers played instead

Of down at the frog, they moved their hand

Up the stick — I had to understand

[Chorus]

So I carved and I shaved and I bent and I braced

Tried every shop from Boston to Brattleboro base

I needed a bow that could bounce and flow

And that’s the birth of the Fiddler’s Bow

[Verse 2]

Dad knew wood and the Vermont guy knew wear

We cooked up a camber like mountain air

Players ran it through “Cripple Creek”

Said, “This feels right, but it’s kinda weak”

[Chorus]

So I crossed the sea with a case of hope

To Frankfurt town where the big wheels spoke

They liked my plan but the price said “no”

Too steep for a man with a hand-made bow

[Bridge]

Then Tianjin called and the molds got made

A crate showed up like a sweet upgrade

Gave ‘em out free — just tell me true

Would you play this bow if it played for you?

[Chorus]

They wrote from Galway, Galax too

Said “Your bow sings like a fiddle should do”

Nine good years and a steady row

Till the market cracked wide with a Glasser blow

[Outro Tag]

I can’t beat mass, but I still know

What it took to shape the Fiddler’s Bow
