With any machine, you don't want it pushing your flexibility beyond what you can naturally do. Letting high weight push you beyond your normal flexibility leads to injuries in many cases. It's all about progressively increasing that tolerance withough a lot of weight. It's safer to practice increasing flexibility significantly beyond regular range of motion without heavy loads

Also, for machine chest pressing, hands should be about same height as the bottom of your pec when the weight is fully lowered. Elbow position should also be higher (relative to the wrist) when pushing straight or downward and lower when pushing more incline.
