The Rant-Sacred Bodies?
The question of why citizens pay taxes on the individual self, a divinely created and spiritually sacred entity, is deeply philosophical and questions the tension between theological convictions, individual sovereignty, and the practical necessities of a modern secular state. The United States' motto, "In God We Trust," reflects a general acknowledgment of divine providence and personal beliefs. The concept of "your body is a temple" primarily derives from Christian scripture, emphasizing personal responsibility and stewardship of one's physical and spiritual well-being. However, the spiritual premise does not directly translate into a legal or economic exemption within the framework of a modern state. The United States operates as a secular government, and its laws, including tax laws, are not primarily derived from specific theological doctrines. Taxation is fundamentally a component of the social contract, and if individual spiritual belief were to convey exemption from taxation, the entire system of public funding might collapse and create an inequitable system.
