Kicking off our series on Missouri’s Special Interim Committee on Property Tax Reform, the first meeting began with Chair Tim Taylor inviting members to share district-specific issues and views on reform. Representative Darin Chappell (R-District 137) led with a compelling case to eliminate property taxes entirely, advocating for a consumption-based tax system. “Missouri doesn’t have a revenue problem; it has a spending problem,” Chappell declared, echoing Act for Missouri’s stance. Other states thrive without burdensome property taxes, supporting robust schools, fire, and police services—Missouri can too. We applaud Rep. Chappell’s bold vision but will be watching closely for actions to match these words.
