Every living American has a great responsibility. That responsibility is not hard to fulfill nor is it complex. A simple act of saying thank you to Gold Star families who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms meets the requirement. In our past, there have been periods of time when we failed to meet this responsibility but today we have come together to ensure that never happens again. A new symbol, a flag, has been created for all to see when it flies, that symbolizes the sacrifice, honor, and remembrance we owe to them. My guest today lost his son, a soldier, in the Global War on Terror, created the new flag, and is the author of Tragedy to Tribute: One Father's Grief Fuels a Passionate Journey to Change the Mindset of a Nation. On December 29, 2005, George Anthony Lutz II, "Tony," was killed by a sniper's bullet while on patrol in Fallujah, Iraq. The devastating news shattered his family and friends, plunging them into shock, grief, and an unimaginable loss-a pain that has been shared by countless other families across the nation. George Lutz is the founder of Honor and Remember, Inc., a national nonprofit dedicated to permanent public recognition of every U.S. service member who died in the line of duty.
