The 1946 book "Foods Used by Filipinos in Hawaii" (University of Hawaii, Agricultural Experiment Station Bulletin 98) documented the foods and food habits of Filipino communities shortly after large migrations to Hawaii for plantation work. Filipinos in Hawaii at that time blended their native agricultural traditions with the local landscape, cultivating many vegetables and preparing dishes that retained strong ties to Filipino heritage.
