In April 1968, Dr. King was assassinated in Memphis. The official story says James Earl Ray acted alone. But many—including King’s own family—never believed that.
This week, President Donald Trump released hundreds of previously classified documents about King’s assassination. These files were part of the JFK Records Act, but also contain references to COINTELPRO, an FBI program that tracked King for years. One document confirms the FBI had wiretapped King’s phone and followed him across the country.
