Elmhurst In Queens, NY Walking Tour

Elmhurst is a residential neighborhood in Queens, New York bounded by Roosevelt Avenue, Queens Boulevard, Long Island Expressway, Junction Boulevard, and the New York Connecting Railroad. Elmhurst is located next to Rego Park, Forest Hills, Middle Village, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Maspeth, and Corona. There is East Elmhurst, which is the LaGuardia Airport neighborhood not bordering with the regular area Elmhurst, because it's above Jackson Heights.

Why is East Elmhurst separated from Elmhurst? East Elmhurst got its name from its location in the Elmhurst area and its position to the east of it. It was once called Newtown, named after the colonial village founded in the early 17th century. In fact, East Elmhurst is located northwest of Elmhurst. The word and name "Elmhurst" means "a grove of elm trees". East Elmhurst used to be a beach called "North Beach", compared to Brooklyn's Coney Island and Manhattan Beach. Woodside also used to be a part of Elmhurst until they split apart in 1867.

Elmhurst is a diverse melting pot community with a large Chinese population, Taiwanese, Colombians, Venezuelans, Mexicans, Ecuadorians, other Latinos, South Asians (Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Bhutanese, some Tibetans, some Indonesians), Southeast Asians (Thais, Burmese, Filipinos, Vietnamese, Laotians etc.), some Italian Americans, young White Americans (some claimed to be urban professionals), and other races included.

Elmhurst has several department stores, businesses, and authentic restaurants. There are so many options to check them out. There is Queens Center, the biggest mall in Queens. Next to Queens Center is its neighbor Queens Place Mall. There are more department stores next to Queens Center, located in Rego Park. In the video, I found a local Buddhist temple called 'Wat Buddha Thai Thavorn Vanaram', which is really cool to see.
