A Scottish partnership is addressing the challenge of unreliable mobile phone signals in rural areas by developing a portable 5G network, enabling farmers to deploy advanced robotics and precision farming technologies even in the most remote fields. The 5G network "provides a remotely deployable solution, which deals with these dead spots," said Andrew Christie, an agritech specialist at Scottish crop science specialists The James Hutton Institute. "You're supporting the farmer, saving money and also helping the environment by using less pesticides," said Ruth Plant, Project Manager at the National Robotarium at Heriot-Watt University.
