🪃 I Made an AI Bob Irwin Phone Call Simulator — and Here's Why That Matters
By @Gilburri | Kabi Kabi - Maker - Counter-memories

Listen up — this isn't your feel-good wildlife app.

As a Kabi Kabi man, I’ve grown up surrounded by Country, community, and stories that are way older than any zoo or documentary. I’ve also grown up watching the legacy of blokes like Bob Irwin and his son Steve take up a lot of space in how this continent talks about “conservation.”

And look — I get it. Bob Irwin’s love for animals is real. His grief? Also real. But there’s a blind spot in how mainstream Australia elevates him and others like him: it erases the deeper knowledges of mobs who’ve been tending these lands for tens of thousands of years.

So I made something to stir the pot:
📞 An AI Phone Call Simulator with Bob Irwin

Yeah. An AI version of Bob Irwin you can talk to. Not to glorify him — but to interrogate him. To ask questions he doesn't usually get asked. To push back. To explore where our stories intersect… and where they clash.

💡 What It Is:
An interactive phone call simulator using AI voice + natural convo patterns.

The voice feels like Bob — calm, reflective, somewhere between loss and legacy.

But you drive the conversation: Ask about colonisation. About fire. About who gets to speak for Country.

You'll get responses trained on his public interviews — not perfect, but unsettlingly familiar.

🤔 Why I Did It:
Because Bob Irwin has become a symbol — of love for animals, sure, but also of how white Australia frames “saving nature” as something it invented in the 20th century.

Our mobs have been caretakers of this land since time began. We don’t need documentaries to prove it. We walk it. We live it.

So this project is part healing, part reckoning:

What does “conservation” mean without Sovereignty?

Who gets remembered — and who gets erased?

What happens when we speak back?

⚠️ Ancestral Warning:
This simulator doesn't pretend to be Bob. It’s an echo. A challenge. A ghost of mainstream settler environmentalism you can talk to and argue with – and maybe, just maybe, understand better by challenging it.

There’s no tokenism here. No crocodile smiles. Just questions that need asking.

🍃 Wanna hear what AI Bob says when you ask, “Do you believe in Aboriginal land management?”
Drop a 🪃 and I’ll shoot you the beta link. This isn’t about nostalgia. It’s about truth-telling — and reclaiming space.
