Colin Childress (Jeffrey Combs), a comic book artist gains inspiration from a mystical book of demonic drawings. He has a studio in his basement and inadvertently summons an evil creature by drawing it, in his sketch pad. Colin is killed, trying to stop the creature . 30 years later, his house has become a institute that accommodates a number of artists.
One of them, Whitney Taylor who is also a comic book illustrator, is investigating the cellar, and finds the book of demonic drawings, and begins to sketch , just as Colin had.
