New Iraqi law: Popular Mobilization Forces

New Iraqi law: Popular Mobilization Forces ("Hashd Shaabi") officially become part of Iraqi Armed Forces.

The Iraqi Parliament's Security and Defense Committee announced that the Hashd al-Shaabi organization, an umbrella group of Iraqi militias, mostly Shia and pro-Iranian, has officially become part of Iraqi Armed Forces.

Accordingly, the organization's forces will be trained at the Iraqi Ministry of Defense Officers Academy.

The Popular Mobilization Forces will participate in the development and provision of Iraq’s infrastructure.

The Hashd al-Shaabi organization, which was initially established to fight ISIS in Iraq, has since served as an Iranian proxy and has close ties to the Revolutionary Guards and Quds Force.
