Petrol again in Durban central and jonty has a small photo op again as well

Another ride, another stop at the petrol station. The familiar roar of my motorcycle comes with a less thrilling ritual—filling up the tank, again. It’s not just the cost; it’s the nagging reminder of fuel inefficiency. Motorcycles are supposed to be lean, mean, freedom machines, but the constant need to refuel feels like a tether.

Every few rides, I’m back at the pump, watching the numbers tick up as the tank gurgles. My bike, a trusty but thirsty beast, guzzles more than I’d like. Sure, it’s better than a car in traffic, but the promise of efficiency feels overstated when I’m refilling every 150 miles. Factors like city riding, aggressive throttling, and that extra weight from my gear don’t help. Neither does the fact that high-performance bikes prioritize power over frugality.

I’ve tried tricks—smoother acceleration, keeping the RPMs low, even shedding some cargo—but the gains are marginal. The reality? Most motorcycles aren’t built for perpetual fuel efficiency. They’re designed for the thrill, not sipping fuel like a scooter on a Sunday stroll. And yet, each fill-up stings, a reminder that freedom comes with a recurring cost.

Maybe it’s time to consider an electric bike or at least a more fuel-efficient model. For now, though, I’ll keep topping off the tank, chasing the open road, and grumbling about the pump. The ride’s worth it, but damn, I wish it sipped a little lighter.
