J.J. Carrell is a retired U.S. Border Patrol Agent with a 24-year career, culminating as a Deputy Patrol Agent in Charge in the San Diego Sector. He supervised an ATV Unit on the San Diego-Tijuana border during a period marked by significant violence and created the Coastal Border Enforcement Team (CBET), which became the most successful maritime narcotic and human smuggling unit in Border Patrol history. His unit notably arrested and seized numerous Sinaloa Cartel narcotic loads, with one of his agents testifying against Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, contributing to his conviction.

Carrell is the author of two Amazon best-selling books, Invaded: The Intentional Destruction of the American Immigration System (2023) and Treason: The Biden Administration’s Strategic and Malicious Destruction of America’s Sovereignty. In these works, he argues that U.S. immigration policies, particularly under the Biden administration, have deliberately undermined national sovereignty, drawing on his firsthand experience to highlight issues like illegal immigration and human trafficking. He has also produced two documentaries, What Is Treason? #Trafficked and #Invaded, focusing on border issues and government policies.

Beyond his Border Patrol career, Carrell gained public attention as a contestant on The Amazing Race seasons 20 and 31, competing as part of a Border Patrol team with Arturo "Art" Velez. In season 20, they won three legs and finished second, but in season 31, they were the first team eliminated due to physical challenges during a task. He also appeared in a 2004 episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and has been a guest on various radio shows, TV networks, and his own conservative news platform, Truth with J.J. Carrell, where he discusses border policy, immigration, and current events.

Carrell ran for Rapid City Council Ward 5 in 2022, emphasizing his roles as Director of College and Career Readiness in Rapid City Area Schools, a mentor in the TeamMates program, and his Border Patrol experience. He did not win the election. He holds a Master’s degree from Southern Arkansas University and is described as a patriotic figure who critiques government corruption while advocating for law and order and American sovereignty.
