Prescious Roy Home Shopping Network: Elf Hotel
The Sifl and Olly Show is a comedy TV series that incorporates sock puppets, animation, and musical performances. Created and performed by musicians Liam Lynch and Matt Crocco, the show first aired on MTV in 1998 and was cancelled in 1999.
The show features two main characters, Sifl and Olly, who host a low-budget, offbeat variety show from their living room, featuring surreal comedy sketches, bizarre phone calls, made-up commercials, and original music.
The show's unscripted feel and sub-Kukla production values make the bizarre punch lines even more jolting.
Regular segments included "Precious Roy's Home Shopping Network," where Olly would briefly lose what sanity he had left to sell very dangerous or impossible products to people; "Calls From the Public," which is exactly what it sounds like (and always includes a call from their landlord who threatens to evict them for some very weird reasons, like collecting monkeys and building a waterpark); "A Word with Chester" (later "Letters to Chester") where Olly would spend a little time talking to Chester, since he wanted to give him a spot on the show; and finally "It's Almost the End of the Show!" where the duo would sing a song, many of which were recycled into the "Kickin' It Old School" segments of Season 2.
Despite its cancellation, Sifl and Olly still appear along with some other characters in occasional episodes of Liam Lynch's podcast, Lynchland. Most of these appearances are clips from Season 3.
The show has a cult following, and fans of the show call themselves "sockheads".
The Sifl and Olly Show was also revived as a "review" show on YouTube starting in September 2012.
In June of 2018, game publisher Devolver Digital expressed interest in working with the Sifl and Olly license, and Liam Lynch responded approvingly, but whether or not anything will come out of it remains to be seen.
The show's origins go back to the 1980s, when Crocco and Lynch would create and perform funny songs and sketches to entertain themselves. They remained friends through high school and college, even though they saw little of each other while they attended Kent State University. Lynch left Kent State and the duo was separated for a few years, but they reunited in Nashville, Tennessee in the 1990s and recorded the comedy album Camp Sunny Side Up on a 4-Track.
The show was also available on DVD, with a 3-volume set containing all 14+ hours across 2x Blurays.
The show's low-budget nature and surreal humor have made it a cult classic, with fans praising its absurdity and creativity.
