On the morning of July 24, 2025, emergency crews were summoned to Hulk Hogan’s Clearwater, Florida, residence, where they responded to a cardiac arrest and ultimately pronounced the WWE Hall of Famer dead at 71. Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan’s passing marked the end of an era for sports entertainment, as fans around the globe mourned the larger-than-life performer whose charisma transcended the wrestling ring. His sudden departure reminded the world of both his indomitable spirit and the very human frailties behind his iconic persona.
Hogan’s journey began in 1977 when he debuted in the regional circuits before joining the World Wrestling Federation. By the early 1980s, his towering frame, bleached-blond hair, and signature handlebar mustache set him apart, while his six world championship reigns cemented his status as wrestling’s top attraction. Under Hogan’s influence, the WWF evolved from a niche spectacle into a mainstream juggernaut, attracting television audiences that had rarely tuned into sports entertainment before.
At the height of “Hulkamania,” Hogan’s catchphrases, “Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?”, and his signature leg drop became ingrained in pop culture. He headlined the inaugural WrestleMania in 1985, delivering a spectacle that blended athleticism with theatrical flair and forever changed the pay-per-view landscape. Beyond the ring, Hogan made memorable appearances on “Saturday Night Live,” co-starred as Thunderlips in Rocky III, and led his own TV series and feature films, broadening his influence far beyond wrestling arenas.
Hogan’s career was not without turbulence. He testified in the 1994 federal steroid trial involving WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, later emerging acquitted. In 2012, Hogan sued Gawker over a leaked private tape, winning a landmark judgment before settling for $31 million. A 2007 recording of racist remarks led to his temporary firing and removal from WWE’s Hall of Fame, though he publicly apologized and was reinstated in 2018, demonstrating a capacity for both misstep and redemption.
Hogan is survived by his wife, yoga instructor Sky Daily, whom he married in September 2023, and his two children, Brooke and Nick, from his first marriage to Linda Hogan. His legacy endures in the countless performers he inspired, the philanthropic endeavors he supported, and the generations of fans who still chant his name. As the curtain falls on the life of the man once known as The Hulkster, his impact on sports entertainment and popular culture remains immortal, his legend truly unstoppable. We will miss you, may you rest in peace.
