TWA Flight 800 | Was It Shot Down?

Shortly after takeoff on July 17th, 1996, TWA Flight 800 from New York to Paris exploded in midair with the loss of all 230 passengers and crew. Eyewitness reports widely quoted in the media suggested that a missile had struck the plane. Still, the authorities hastily put their theory forward; a spark had added fuel vapor in that empty tank. Even though a four year investigation was largely inconclusive it managed to come down in favor of the official explanation the CIA helped explain why witnesses might have thought they saw a missile and explained their witness witnesses were misled by the sudden change in trajectory of the planes fuselage after the explosion which looked like a missile streaking across the sky.
