Syria: Series of Explosions at Weapons Depot in Idlib Kill at Least 7, Injure 157 | N18G

A series of explosions at a weapons depot in northwestern Syria killed at least seven people and wounded 157 on Thursday, according to the Syrian Health Ministry. Multiple blasts occurred at the weapons and ammunition warehouse belonging to the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), a jihadist group active in the Idlib region, comprising Uighur fighters who joined the Syrian civil war to fight against former President Bashar al-Assad. Syrian authorities did not immediately confirm the cause of the explosions and announced an urgent and thorough investigation. The Syrian ministry stated that it was taking measures to prevent such explosions in the future. The explosions occurred after recent sectarian clashes between the Druze minority and Bedouin tribes in the city of Sweida, which claimed the lives of over 1,000 people. Israel also launched strikes in Syria, citing support for the Druze community. On July 18, a ceasefire was finalized between Israel and Syria.
