Security Guard With Rifle Takes Out Active Shooter - On the morning of July 20, 2025, at approximately 2:50 a.m., a gunman approached the Gaslight Lounge on the 700 block of West Fourth Avenue in downtown Anchorage. The suspect—later identified as 23‑year‑old Leroy Manogiamanu—never entered the bar. Surveillance footage shows masked individuals walking past the entrance before a scuffle broke out between a bouncer and one of the men. The man drew a weapon and opened fire, striking two Gaslight security guards—one in the hand and another multiple times—along with a female patron who was grazed by a stray bullet. Manogiamanu was subsequently shot and fatally wounded by another security guard who retrieved a rifle from a nearby vehicle and engaged the shooter, ending the threat.
The shooting resulted in one fatality (Manogiamanu) and three non‑fatal injuries, including the two security guards and the patron. Police and first responders arrived on scene in under a minute, and although eyewitness reports and video show a chaotic crowd of roughly 100 people at the bar break, no further suspect has been detained. Anchorage Police are treating the incident as a homicide and have increased nighttime patrols on Fourth Avenue—including doubling officer presence, blocking parking meters, and temporarily prohibiting late‑night parking between G and H Streets—to deter future violence in this high‑risk area.
