“31” BLOB v. 5-Man Free Switching Defense:

This clip is from my last year of coaching. It was during the lockdown, hence our gym being empty. We picked up a non-league game v. one of the best programs in extreme northwest Ohio. This team was very difficult to execute against. Offensively, they utilized 5-Man Motion & Defensively, they utilized 5-Man free switching defense. Hicksville’s defense was physical, ball-pressure oriented, & their switching made us make a ton of adjustments to our “Spread” Blocker/Mover offense.
This BLOB scenario occurred w/ less than one-second on-the-clock at the end of the first quarter. Our strategy v. defenses who 5-man free switched on BLOBs was to utilize zone BLOBS, with adjustments made to our screening. Our numbering system was as such; any play ending with the number zero was a man-to-man play. Any play ending with the number one was a zone play. So, “30” was a man-to-man play & “31” was a zone play.
