How to Match Light a Gas Stove-Date: 2/17/2021

In this video I show you how to match light a gas stove. My stove runs on natural gas. This method should work for lighting propane stoves too. You can use this method during a power outage when your electronic ignition isn't working. This is one of the advantages for those of us that have gas stoves and cook tops. Most likely you won't be able to light the oven this way though because the oven needs the electronics for the thermostat and workings of the oven to work

If the stove doesn't light within at least 5 seconds, turn off the burner(s). Wait for at least 5 minutes to give the gas fumes a chance to clear. Then you can try again. I do recommend using 2 hands to light the burner. I usually have the lighter lit and near the burner before I turn on the valve to help limit the amount of unburned gas that can get out.

I do recommend using an extended lighter like the one I used in the video instead of matches to light the burner because these burners can light quicker than you can pull your fingers away which can cause severe burns.
