118 Palestinian High School Students Currently Held by 'Israeli' Occupation.

Ramallah, occupied Palestine – Coinciding with the release of the high school matriculation exams (tawjihi) in Palestine today, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said in a statement today that some 118 high school students in the West Bank are currently held in the 'Israeli' occupation's prisons, according to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Additionally, thousands of students in Gaza were deprived of sitting their final exams due to the ongoing genocide.

The PPS added that Palestinian political prisoners have struggled for decades for their right to education and knowledge, succeeding in turning prisons into educational extensions of schools and universities. Through this, they created an alternative space for the meaning of freedom.

However, since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza, the occupation has not only deprived hundreds of prisoners from continuing their education inside prisons but has also arrested hundreds more during the widespread detention campaigns. Meanwhile, thousands of students in Gaza have been denied their right to education, with the deliberate targeting of the education system in Gaza becoming one of the most prominent features of the genocide.

The PPS emphasizes that the occupation, using every tool at its disposal, has sought to undermine the role of the student movement, which has long been one of the key pillars of the Palestinian national struggle.
