Police union leader says several suspects identified in brutal downtown Cincinnati attack
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The President of Cincinnati's Fraternal Order of Police, Ken Kober, expressed strong disapproval over a recent brutal attack. Kober was criticizing bystanders for recording the incident rather than intervening to help the victims try to diffuse the situation. Kober said investigators were making progress in identifying those involved and expected charges to be filed soon. Several people captured the initial slap and subsequent attacks from the incident on Friday night on their cellphones. Kober said those are crucial in identifying everyone involved.
"They're a great video that shows exactly what occurred and I think that these people are gonna be brought to justice," he said.
City cameras in the area will also provide additional footage of the incident.
Kober emphasized that investigators are working tirelessly to apprehend those responsible.
"These investigators have been working around the clock to identify everybody that's involved, to be able to locate those people, to be able to interview them, to be able to get a true picture of exactly what occurred," he said.
While several tips have been received, Kober asked the public for its help.
"There are still some people that have not been identified. I would ask that the public play a part in this because stuff like this shouldn't happen in our city. But when it does, we need people to step forward that way we can bring these people to justice," he said.
Kober also highlighted a disturbing trend revealed by the videos, where recording the moment seemed to take precedence over aiding the victims:
How do you not call 911? How do you not try to render some aid? You have a woman that is knocked unconscious. It's just crazy to me that we live in a society that people would rather take a video than actually try to stop something from happening or intervening and try to render aid. It's just to me, it's pretty disgusting.
Police have interviewed the man and woman who were knocked unconscious during the attack.
Local 12 has learned that at least one person called 911, but it’s not clear who that was.
