And on that note…Operation Joint Endeavor, what brought US troops on ground in the conflict as part of IFOR? The Sarajevo Market was hit with mortars for the second time on August 28, 1995, which killed 43 civilians and wounded 84. The people of Sarajevo filled in the strike points with a red cement like filler. Hence, “The Sarajevo Rose”. If you saw one of those, that was a place where a Sarajevan died. Our JTF, we were on our own. Until I was able to convince my CO up in MND-N, Tuzla, Bh, to get us proper HMMMV support, we were stuck with M1009 CUCV (military version of the Chevy Blazer). When we finally got our Hummers, well, we tactically relocated a lot of the parts used to make them run correctly. Thank you Clinton, thank you Cheney, you fuckin clowns! Hence the term, “Busted Truck”. Yep, nothing like rollin’ through Sniper Alley and prayin that some fucker doesn’t want to relive the days when he was killin serbs. We’d be lucky with the busted trucks we had to extend from an ambush. If there was one cool thing about those deployments to MND-SE (French Controlled Section), at least it didn’t fall under General Order No. 1. “Body by Fosters!” – The Veterans of Hill 30
