At least coffee #73, or Where is the truth

The antisocial minister, combine harvester operator, and tractor driver Jurečka keeps trying to convince us how beneficial the war refugees from Ukraine are. How many of them work here and how much they contribute to the budget. In his statement, he and other ministers, as well as the media sympathetic to them, use a word that proves them to be lying. That word is "long-term." Yes, those Ukrainians who have been working here for a long time do indeed contribute the same amount of money to the budget as Slovaks or Vietnamese who have been working here for a similar length of time. They have been working here for decades. This is evident from their knowledge of Czech. You can tell they are Ukrainians by their accent, but otherwise they will speak fluent Czech with you. And it doesn't matter if they are construction workers or shop assistants. They speak fluent Czech. There are even some among them who have decided to stay here permanently, marrying Czech women, having children, apartments, or even their own houses. I personally know one such person. He has a house not far from me, has a son, and will obviously soon have Czech citizenship. He is Ukrainian, and I only know him as Ivan. This does not mean the Russian nickname Ivan. He is really Ivan. No one calls him by his surname. Why should they, when he has long been "one of us"?
Our Ivan has been here so long that he has reached retirement age and stopped going to work. I talked to him about it. And he is unhappy about it. He doesn't know what to do with himself. He has plenty of work at home, but that doesn't satisfy him. But like many other retirees, I believe he will eventually get used to it.
I think there will be many more like him. And many of you will know at least those who have been working here for more than three years. And they work well. I had several groups of Ukrainians at my house. They worked for the construction company of my long-time customer and acquaintance. And he was doing some renovations for me that I needed. They were all Ukrainians. They were skilled, hard-working, and, although it may seem impossible to you, they strictly adhered to non-alcoholic beverages. I don't know how they behaved after work, but even though I offered them beer, they strictly refused it.
Yes, even these guys from Ukraine contributed money to the state budget. And I don't think they received any social benefits. Since both my friend and I stopped doing business a long time ago, our acquaintance ended, and I don't know if he would be able to tell me anything similar about how those guys lived today. It's been a long time.
Where is the truth? It is probably impossible to find statistics that would separate these two groups of Ukrainians and reveal the truth. So everyone has to form their own opinion. I also believe that a thinking person understands the difference between those who have been working here for a long time and those who took advantage of the situation and fled here from places untouched by war. At that time, they were definitely untouched. And today, they behave in the same way as Islamists in more western countries. And our authorities treat them in exactly the same way. They are forgiven for everything and are given greater social benefits than our own people. This includes the much-despised Gypsies.
